The discovery children's museum will refresh content and renovate water world, one of the original and most popular permanent exhibitions

The Discovery Children's Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada received a $518,899 Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the Museums for America (CFDA 45.301) program. The grant funding will be used by the museum to refresh and renovate its Water World permanent exhibition. Key activities include contracting with an exhibition fabricator, project manager, and evaluator to update the existing exhibit design, fabricate and install new components, and conduct remedial evaluation. The museum will also develop new programs, community partnerships, curriculum-based materials, and online content for educators related to the updated Water World exhibit. As a result, visitors will experience a more water-efficient, engaging, and curriculum-aligned permanent exhibit focused on water conservation topics relevant to Nevada. The project period is 2 years, from September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2025.

Based on recommendations from a 2020 exhibit master planning report, staff will contract with an exhibition fabricator, a project manager, and an evaluator to take existing designs through fabrication, testing, installation, and remedial evaluation. A cross-departmental staff team will collaborate on the development of programs, community partnerships, revised k-7TH grade curriculum-based materials, creation of online content for educators, and a timelapse video of the exhibition installation. As a result, visitors will enjoy a permanent exhibition that requires significantly less water to operate, with improved safety and engagement features and new nevada-specific content around water conservation.
