About this award
The Museum of Art and History at the McPherson Center will produce an exhibit and related programming focusing on Indigenous perspectives on socio-ecological challenges. Funded September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2024 by a $390,539 Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services' Museums for America program, the exhibit and two phases of collaborator-driven programming will seek to create space for ongoing conversations around community and creative ecologies. Working with the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, Amah Mutsun Land Trust, Amah Mutsun Relearning Program at UC Santa Cruz, and the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band's Young Adult Native Stewardship Corps, the project aims to help visitors learn, connect, heal and grow beyond societal challenges while also increasing public awareness of the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band and advancing its initiatives in the context of historical trauma and marginalization suffered by the tribe.
