The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) was awarded a $13.29 million Project Grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) under the Buses and Bus Facilities Formula, Competitive, and Low or No Emissions Programs (CFDA 20.526). The grant will fund CTA's Electric Bus Program to purchase electric buses and charging stations. The program aims to replace diesel buses with lower or zero-emission electric buses to modernize and green CTA's fleet. The grant period runs from June 2021 through March 2027 to support implementation and completion of the bus electrification efforts. The FTA grant program supports capital projects to replace, rehabilitate, purchase or lease buses and related equipment as well as construct bus facilities, with a focus on funding initiatives that reduce bus emissions. This award will assist CTA in advancing its sustainability goals through adoption of electric bus technology supported under the competitive component of the federal program.
