Brigham & Women's Hospital Inc. was awarded a $379,876 project grant from the Defense Health Agency under the Military Medical Research and Development program (CFDA 12.420). The grant will fund research from September 1, 2023 through August 31, 2026 to investigate whether microbiome-derived cell fragments in the brain can accelerate the transition from traumatic brain injury to Alzheimer's disease or related dementias. As the direct awardee, Brigham & Women's Hospital will leverage its expertise in biomedical research and healthcare services to conduct the scientific study. Partners Healthcare System Incorporated, the parent organization of Brigham & Women's Hospital, will provide additional administrative support over the course of the three-year award period to help achieve the goals of the Defense Health Agency's Military Medical Research and Development program.
