Description
Annual and cumulative deterioration in fishing areas off the caribbean coast of honduras create pressure on fishers to explore illicit activities such as illegal cross-border fishing or irregular migration to the united states. The centro DE estudios marinos (CEM) will work in ten fishing communities and with fishers' associations in fisheries management in the puerto cortes and omoa municipalities to increase organizational capacity and to improve governance of coastal marine resources. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to strengthen governance and expand economic opportunity in honduras. CEM's activities bolster efforts to protect coastal marine resources that communities depend on. This grant is part of our broader initiative to support economic prosperity, democracy and governance consistent with the U.S. Strategy for engagement in central america.
