The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded a $600,000 Project Grant to the G.A. Carmichael Family Health Center in Canton, MS under the Community Health Centers program (CFDA 93.224). The grant will fund a 2-year project to substantially expand behavioral health services, including substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and medication-assisted treatment (MAT), across 5 counties. Key goals of the project include increasing patient access to mental health and SUD services by 20%, establishing MAT programs for at least 100 opioid use disorder patients, and enhancing community awareness of available resources through outreach and education. The project builds on existing partnerships to develop integrated service pathways and referral systems, ensuring comprehensive care for the underserved populations in the region, of whom 88% live below the federal poverty level. The health center plans to sustain the expanded services beyond the grant period through ongoing state funding, enhanced Medicaid reimbursements, and sliding scale fees.
