The University of Wyoming (UW), through its Sponsored Programs unit, was awarded a $1,277,898 Project Grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance (CFDA 93.243) program. The five-year grant, effective September 30, 2024, will establish the Mountain Plains Prevention Technology Transfer Center (Region 8 PTTC) at UW, in partnership with the Educational Development Center, Inc. (EDC). The Region 8 PTTC will provide high-quality training and technical assistance to the substance misuse prevention workforce across the six states and 29 tribes comprising SAMHSA's Region 8, with a target of serving at least 2,000 unique individuals annually and 15,000 over the lifetime of the grant. Key goals include supporting and building the prevention workforce through collaboration with state agencies and tribal nations, as well as advancing the substance misuse prevention field through UW's specialized expertise in data collection, needs assessment, program evaluation, and the development of a prevention fellowship program.
