This federal Project Grant award of $1,479,058 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance (CFDA 93.243) program will fund the Northeast and Caribbean Prevention Technology Transfer Center (NEC PTTC) operated by Rutgers University's Center for Prevention Science.

The NEC PTTC will provide training and technical assistance (T/TA) services to strengthen the substance misuse prevention workforce across SAMHSA Region 2, which includes New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and multiple tribal nations. Key activities will include conducting annual workforce needs assessments, implementing an engagement and communications plan, disseminating the latest prevention science knowledge, developing culturally responsive T/TA services, and collaborating with national SAMHSA-funded TA centers. The award also supports two additional efforts: providing tailored T/TA on data-driven, community-level prevention strategies and implementing a prevention fellowship program focused on historically oppressed and under-resourced communities. The project period runs from September 30, 2024 to September 29, 2029 and is expected to serve 2,100 unduplicated individuals annually and 10,500 over the full five-year grant duration.

A sub-award of an unspecified amount will go to the Research Foundation For Mental Hygiene, Inc. (doing business as New York Psychiatric Center) to support the implementation of prevention workforce development activities within the NEC PTTC's service region.
