The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) Foundation was awarded a $1,116,280 Project Grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance (CFDA 93.243) program. The grant, titled the "Minority Fellowship Program for Addictions Counseling (MFP-AC)", will support master's-level degree stipends, infrastructure development, and specialty training to increase the number of culturally competent substance use disorder professionals serving racial and ethnic minority populations. Over the 5-year award period, the grant will provide 215 fellowships and train an additional 5,000 substance use disorder behavioral health professionals. The NBCC Foundation is partnering with NAADAC, The Association for Addiction Professionals, to assist with grant support personnel, program activities, fellow selection, training, and support.
