The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) received a $735,000 Project Grant award from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance (CFDA 93.243) program. This 5-year grant will support MDPH's Massachusetts Youth Suicide Prevention Project (MA-YSPP) to implement suicide prevention and early intervention strategies across 10 community-based teams and 8 school districts in Massachusetts. The key objectives are to: (1) increase the capacity of youth-serving organizations to identify and assist youth at risk of suicide, (2) enhance the ability of clinical service providers to assess, manage, and treat at-risk youth, and (3) improve the continuity of care and follow-up for youth identified as suicidal, including those discharged from emergency departments and psychiatric units. MDPH will collaborate with existing statewide and regional suicide prevention coalitions and leverage technical assistance and funding to build sustainable, community-specific suicide prevention pathways. MDPH has also partnered with the University of Massachusetts Amherst Center for Program Evaluation to serve as the project evaluator.
