The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) was awarded a $800,000 Project Grant under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance (CFDA 93.243) program by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The grant, titled "BALTIMORE LINKING ACTIONS FOR UNMET NEEDS IN CHILDREN'S HEALTH (B-LAUNCH)", aims to improve the social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and behavioral development of Black children aged 0-8 by expanding access to culturally-responsive promotion and evidence-based early childhood mental health screening and prevention interventions. The project will be implemented in collaboration with primary care teams from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the All Walks of Life Mental Health Team, as well as 18 community partners. Over the 5-year project period from September 2024 to September 2029, the grant will benefit 10,400 young children and their caregivers by providing behavioral health screening, referrals, and early childhood mental health prevention interventions in primary care clinics and childcare programs. Additionally, the project will train 1,720 providers, interns, parents/caregivers, and community partners in early childhood mental health promotion, screening, and prevention.
