Description
Substance use treatment program partnership to identify, implement, and broadly disseminate new forms of SUD treatment targeted to undeserved populations. - this proposal will collect patient-reported mental health outcomes and biometric assessments of sleep and cardiovascular outcomes for persons in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. The overarching goal of this research is to establish a system of rigorous patient assessment in order to improve patient care within the ashley, INC. Or ashley addiction treatment (i.e., the name by which services are delivered), and to inform the broader addiction medicine community of best practices in tracking treatment outcomes. Substance use is a major problem in the united states, including the deadly and protracted opioid crisis and an emergent stimulant crisis. There is a general need to improve SUD treatment, yet the majority of SUD treatment providers do not track or report treatment outcomes. Incorporating patient-reported and objective outcomes into SUD treatment has the potential to improve treatment directly by informing clinical staff of patient needs in real-time. Collecting these outcomes can also lead to improved pharmacological and behavioral strategies for at-risk sub-groups of persons with suds. During the funding period, this project will collect data from 2,800 unique patients within the ashley addiction treatment system, and establish the infrastructure to collect longitudinal outcomes. Mental health and biometric outcomes will be used by clinicians in real-time to inform treatment. These data will also be used in future analyses to examine factors such as opioid- stimulant CO-use and associated mental health trajectories, risk of persistent/recalcitrant mental health/sleep problems, and drug relapse outcomes. Thus, this project will improve patient care directly and provide a resource to the scientific community regarding the relationship among mental health, sleep, and drug use outcomes in a real-world sample for persons in SUD treatment.
