The Gulf Consortium was awarded a $4,660,161 Project Grant by the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council under the Oil Spill Impact Program (CFDA 87.052) to implement Phase 1 of the Veterans Park Living Shoreline project in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Through this award, the Gulf Consortium, in cooperation with its sub-recipient Okaloosa County, will construct a 2,000-foot living shoreline at the Veterans Park site to stabilize the shoreline, restore seagrasses, provide benthic and intertidal habitat, and enhance wildlife habitat and public access. The overall project aims to restore and protect the natural resources, ecosystems, and coastal areas of the Gulf Coast region impacted by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The funding will support construction activities and monitoring for all three phases of the living shoreline restoration.
