This $16,166,822 Project Grant awarded by the Federal Transit Administration under the Buses and Bus Facilities Formula, Competitive, and Low or No Emissions Programs (CFDA 20.526) will enable the City of Ocala, Florida to electrify and expand its SunTran transit system.
Specifically, the funding will be used to: 1) Purchase 5 35-foot battery-electric buses (BEBs) and 26 battery-electric small cutaway vans; 2) Construct a BEB maintenance facility; 3) Purchase 5 depot chargers for the 35-foot BEBs, 22 depot chargers for the small cutaway vans, and 4 depot superchargers; 4) Install the depot chargers and upgrade the power infrastructure; and 5) Support workforce development and project administration activities. These investments will allow SunTran to begin electrifying its fleet, expand its fixed-route service, and add new microtransit service to better serve the citizens of Ocala and Marion County.
