This $16,132,025 federal Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Buses and Bus Facilities Formula, Competitive, and Low or No Emissions Programs (CFDA 20.526) will enable the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (Lynx) to replace 20 diesel buses from 2010-2012 with Proterra 40 ZX5 MAX battery electric buses, install a power electronics depot charger with up to 15 dispensers, procure 5 Turtle Top Terra Transit Ford E450 Optimal EV cutaways to replace gasoline cutaways, and design/construct 3 charging stations for the new electric cutaways. The award will reduce Lynx's annual energy consumption by 27,000 gigajoules, lower direct carbon emissions by 2,441 metric tons, and avoid significant maintenance costs. This project will enhance sustainable transportation access and mobility for disadvantaged, minority, and transportation-dependent populations in the Central Florida service area.
