THIS PROJECT WILL IMPLEMENT RESTORATION ACTIONS FOR THE THREATENED OREGON SILVERSPOT BUTTERFLY (OSB)AT THE BIG CREEK MEADOW COMPLEX OF CARL G WASHBURNE STATE PARK. WORK WILL INVOLVE GROW OUT OF LARVAL HOST AND ADULT NECTAR PLANTS IN PLUG CONTAINERS, PLANTING OF THESE PLANTS, SEEDING WITH LARVAL HOST PLANTS AND NECTAR SPECIES, AND WEED CONTROL/COMPETING VEGETATION MANAGEMENT. RESTORATION OF EXISTING OSB HABITAT IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE SURVIVAL OF THE SPECIES. WITHOUT ACTIVE INTERVENTION TO REVERSE WEED AND SHRUB/TREE INVASION OF MEADOW HABITATS, THE HABITAT THAT THE OSB DEPENDS ON WILL CONTINUE TO DECLINE UNTIL IT IS NO LONGER ABLE TO SUPPORT POPULATIONS.
