About this award

The City of Neenah received a $204,308.30 Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) Fish and Wildlife Service Region 3 under the Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration (NRDAR) Program (CFDA 15.658). The award, issued on September 2, 2025, with an ultimate completion date of May 2, 2028, funds the development of fishing access areas along the Fox River Channel. The project involves the construction of three limestone outcropping platforms strategically positioned along the shoreline to provide public fishing access to the main channel. Each platform will measure approximately 20 square feet and include stepped access features to facilitate greater water access. The limestone material will be locally sourced and consistent with the geological composition found at nearby High Cliff State Park.

The NRDAR Program funds restoration of natural resources injured by oil spills or hazardous substance releases, with the Fox River project specifically addressing recreational access development within a watershed previously impacted by polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) contamination. This recreational amenity development aligns with the program's mandate to restore natural resource services and compensate the American public for environmental damages through implementation of restoration activities.

Description

We are proposing three limestone outcroppings from which to access the main channel and to fish from. Each platform will be strategically locating along the shoreline providing separation from other areas and approximately 20 square with a step down to gain greater access to the water. The limestone will be locally sourced and reflective of the limestone found at high cliff state park just across the lake from this location.
