About this award
This Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service under the Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund (CFDA 15.615) provides $143,280.00 to the California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW) to conduct research and conservation efforts for the recovery of the Butte County meadowfoam (Limnanthes floccosa ssp. californica). The award will fund pollination studies, including pollinator observations, and test the management technique of assisted local dispersal to help expand a small, at-risk population of this state and federally listed plant species. Expected outcomes include an understanding of the plant's pollinators and mating strategies, as well as an expansion of the occupied area for one population. The final deliverable will be a report detailing all activities, study results, and management implications. This grant supports CDFW's comprehensive approach to wildlife conservation and ecosystem management through collaborations with research institutions.
Description
Californica), which is both state and federally listed, will likely depend on understanding more about its biology, including its level of dependence on pollinators, its mating strategy (outcrossing VS. Selfing), and its dispersal ability. At two ecological reserves managed by the california department of fish and wildlife (cdfw), we propose to conduct pollination studies, including pollinator observations, and to test the management technique of assisted local dispersal as a conservation enhancement to help expand one small, at-risk population. Expected outcomes include an understanding of butte county meadowfoams pollinators and mating strategies. We also expect to expand the area occupied by one population butte county meadowfoam, and gain an understanding of successful assisted local dispersal techniques. The deliverable will be a final report that describes all activities conducted, presents results of the studies, and discusses results and management implications.
