About this award
This federal Project Grant award, issued by the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service under the Clean Vessel Act (CFDA 15.616) program, provides $180,006 in funding to the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) to support coastal water quality initiatives in New Hampshire.
Specifically, the grant will fund the operation and maintenance of one mobile pumpout boat service and one stationary pumpout facility, as well as provide funding for educational outreach to increase public awareness of regulations regarding sewage discharge from recreational boats. This aims to prevent water quality issues such as shellfish harvesting closures, beach advisories, and marine ecosystem degradation. Additionally, the grant will support one NHDES staff position to oversee sub-grant administration, reporting, and public education efforts. This project is limited to New Hampshire's coastal waters and focuses on popular boating areas, with activities centered around the Piscataqua River, Great Bay, and Hampton Harbor. The award period is from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026.
