Description

A petition to list the pinyon JAY under the ESA was filed in the spring of 2022 largely based on longterm population declines and concerns regarding the current condition of their preferred habitat across the great basin i.e. pinyonjuniper. In idaho breeding colony locations and use of habitat lacking pinyon pines are poorly understood. Surveys to document current breeding activity and potentially unique habitat use in idaho would inform future habitatmanagement recommendations and the forthcoming species status assessment.
