Description
The edes falls DAM removal in naples, maine will remove a failing granite block DAM which, during low flow conditions, is a barrier to the single most important spawning and nursery habitat supporting the wild salmon population in sebago lake. The sebago population of landlocked salmon is the only remaining original strain of landlocked salmon in maine with a significant amount of wild reproduction. The crooked river also contains a significant wild brook trout population, whose movement is hindered by the DAM under low flow conditions. The project will remove this barrier using mechanical means (excavator), restoring connectivity as well as the natural function of this section of river, including passage of large woody material and access to the floodplain.
