Description

The purpose of this proposal is to seek financial support to identify, list, conserve, and recover the indigenous species and subspecies (taxa) of amphibians and reptiles that are threatened or endangered in new mexico, and attempt to preclude the need to list other rare or sensitive amphibians and reptiles before they become highly imperiled within the state.through this funding opportunity, we (nmdgf) hope to accomplish the following: to develop and maintain information regarding the rare or imperiled native amphibians and reptiles of new mexico, including ranges, numbers, biology, taxonomy, and prospects for survival and recruitment within the state. To identify species and subspecies that may be in need of additional management and protection to ensure their persistence within the state. To develop and implement appropriate conservation, management, and recovery actions for the taxa identified in number 2 (above), with the goal of improving their status to the point that the persistence of these taxa within new mexico will not be considered to be in jeopardy in the present or foreseeable future. To complete specific projects that address the conservation, management, and recovery needs identified in number 3 (above) for the species or subspecies in greatest need of additional conservation measures. This proposal includes the projects listed below: project 1: investigations of the chiricahua leopard frog and associated amphibians in the gila region of new mexico project 2: population status of northern mexican and narrow-headed gartersnakes in new mexico
