Description

Currently, the manatee population on the east coast for florida is experiencing unprecedented mortality and live distressed manatee cases that are overwhelming the FWC staff and resources in the area. As this proposal is for a new project, the loss would be the opportunity to enhance the current staffing and resources to rescue distressed manatees and collect high quality data from live and dead stranded manatees. The loss of this grant funding potential will impact the quantity and quality of the live and dead manatee data provide to FWC managers, federal managers, and stakeholders.
