Description
The north slope borough department of wildlife management is one of several regional management bodies that formed the alaska migratory bird CO management council that allows subsistence users to have an effective and meaningful role in the development and implementation of regulations through management bodies. We will develop recommendations for, among other things, seasons and bag limits, law enforcement policies, population and harvest monitoring, education programs, research and use of traditional knowledge, and habitat protection. Activities to be performed we will participate in the spring and fall workshops and regular meetings of the ambcc, and any technical meetings and committee meetings that come up. The NSB is a member of the technical committee, harvest survey harvest limitations committee, long term goals and objectives committee, the flyway council service regulations committee, budget committee, executive director search committee, and the law enforcement committee. In may 2012, the ambcc created several ad hoc committees, of which the NSB is a member of, and include the CO management principles committee, the definition of indigenous inhabitants committee, and the fall winter subsistence harvest season committee. These committees were formed as a way to move the CO management process of the ambcc forward.expected deliverables this grant also pays for one regional management body meeting per year. The outcomes will be the successful recommendations of the services regulations committee on any proposals that deal with regulations on migratory birds. Intended beneficiaries recommendations for regulations will be submitted to the U.S. Fish and wildlife service (US FWS) and the pacific flyway council. This grant is targeted for the benefit of subsistence users of migratory birds and eggs in the north slope borough.
