Description

College of southern nevada project title: nevada national security site (nnss) faststart program project objectives: the nevada national security site (nnss) faststart program project will provide a pipeline of students to be prepared for technician positions with the nevada nuclear security site (nnss). Students entering the pipeline will be from two sources: 1) traditional adult learners at the college of southern nevada (CSN) and 2) early college students from clark county school district (CCSD) high school programs with coursework that meets the collegiate outcomes. Both groups will pursue a model know as faststart in which students successfully complete a series of preliminary courses, apply for the nnss faststart program, then, if accepted, are employed by the nnss while completing their associate of applied science degree in engineering technology: electronics - defense contractor technician (etdctaas) or one of the other disciplines approved by nnss and CSN. The overarching nnss faststart program goals are to: build student capacity in the nuclear science related trade labor disciplines, increase the number of students that earn stem industry-recognized credentials shortly after high school graduation leading to entry-level employment in high-skill, high-wage, in-demand jobs; create a seamless transition from high school to postsecondary education that leads to increased stem credential attainment among students, especially students from underrepresented groups; create a sustainable and scalable model of secondary, postsecondary, and industry partnerships that create talent pipelines to meet the needs of the industry within the region; and create systemic change by improving partnerships between colleges, school districts, and regional employers.
