306C WWD RUS colonias - domestic water

The Rural Utilities Service (RUS) awarded $200,000 on June 20, 2025, to the Papago Butte Domestic Water Improvement District under the Water and Waste Facility Loans and Grants to Alleviate Health Risks for Colonias and Tribal Lands program (CFDA 10.770). This Project Grant supports the development and improvement of domestic water infrastructure in Arizona, specifically targeting the colonias region along the U.S./Mexico border.

Under this award, the Papago Butte Domestic Water Improvement District will utilize funding to construct, improve, or operate water treatment facilities and distribution systems designed to provide safe, reliable drinking water access to low-income rural residents experiencing significant public health risks due to inadequate water service infrastructure. The project directly aligns with the program's mandate to address critical health risks in underserved rural communities with limited economic resources and populations under 1,500 residents.
