About this award
The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago (KCCOC) was awarded a $697,609 Project Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities under the Promotion of the Humanities Challenge Grants program (CFDA 45.130). The grant will support KCCOC's renovation of current facilities and creation of a new 450-person presentation hall to significantly increase its capacity for delivering humanities programs. Since opening in 2010, KCCOC has become a leading destination in the Midwest for celebrating and examining Korean and Korean American culture and heritage through programs attended annually by approximately 80,000 visitors. Leveraging the capital project with its 10th anniversary campaign, KCCOC will use the federal matching funds to support renovation costs as it raises cash contributions from non-federal third parties to strengthen its institutional base and further its humanities mission as required under the Challenge Grants program. The project is expected to be completed by March 2024.
