Description

Community project funding/congressionally directed spending - construction - andy's place II: creating long term housing to combat the opiate crisis andy's place II proposes to build 26 units of housing intended to support the long-term housing and social service needs for persons in recovery from opiate addiction and includes 15 one-bedroom units and 11 two-bedroom units. Pregnant women and families with infant children in recovery from addiction will be prioritized for tenancy at andy's place II. Andy's place II has attracted the attention of families who have lost loved ones to opiate addiction and their comments about andy's place II have been universally the same; if only andy's place had been available, my SON or daughter or father or mother or friend might still be alive. In 2019, opioid overdoses killed 1,768 michiganders, an average of almost five people every single day according to the michigan opiates task force 2020 annual report. At andy's place II, families will live in a safe, drug free environment and have the support of property management staff, case managers and therapists working at the building as well as support from fellow tenants who are also in recovery from addiction. To become a tenant at andy's place II, families would need to follow strict lease agreements including maintaining sobriety as a condition of tenancy and random drug testing. Subsidized apartment rents would allow very low income families to reside at andy's place II. Andy's place II will also address the heart breaking consequences of drug addiction for pregnant women and their unborn and support these families with their struggle to maintain sobriety. The community action agency (CAA), CO-owner of andy's place II, will provide support services for families. CAA is both a provider for the early head start and head start programs and will provide these servcies for families at andy's place II. Federal funding for andy's place II will pay a portion of the project's construction cost.
