The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) received a $610,518 Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the American Latino Museum Internship and Fellowship Initiative (CFDA 45.031). The purpose of this 3-year award, which began on September 27, 2023, is for UTEP's Rubin Center for the Visual Arts to expand its internship program for undergraduate students interested in museum professions. Key project activities include deploying an annual student recruitment plan, matching participants with internships aligned to their learning goals, supporting six paid undergraduate positions, facilitating travel to a partner museum site, and hosting a series of speaker events featuring Latino museum professionals. The project aims to culminate in an evidence-based program evaluation focused on the efforts and impacts of internships for emerging museum professionals.
