Description

The hippocratic society curriculum expansion & development [currently, our undergraduate pre-medical curriculum is structured around five fundamental concepts that we want students to discuss and reflect on, as they start their journey into medicine. These are based on philosophical texts, guided by a physician and philosopher leading discussions with students monthly at local chapters. We plan on integrating literature into this curriculum, as a ?third thing?, emulating the approach of parker palmer, to use literature, arts, and humanities as media through which students can interact with the material at a personal and deeper level. Our medical curriculum is case-based focusing on various virtues that are core to being a physician. Our hope for this next year is to integrate art into our curriculum, similarly, as a ?third thing? For trainees and attendings to reflect together on the what, why, and how of each virtue. Additionally, we hope to build out an additional aspect of the curriculum, on fundamental questions for practicing medicine.]
