Description
The rocky mountain regional brain injury system (rmrbis) is committed to achieving the objectives of providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary services for individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and conducting research that develops evidence-based rehabilitation interventions. Our overall approach is to build upon over 24 years of continuous participation in the TBI model systems (tbims) program by 1) continuing to assess long-term outcomes of people with TBI (target population) and continuing to contribute high quality follow up data and at least 35 new form 1 cases to the tbims national database; 2) conducting an innovative site-specific study evaluating the efficacy of three interventions to improve mobility and balance after TBI; 3) proposing and leading a module to evaluate psychosocial adjustment and posttraumatic growth after TBI; and 4) participating in collaborative module research. Anticipated outcomes include 1) yielding robust evidence to inform clinicians and consumers about the most efficacious intervention being delivered to maximize mobility and balance recovery after TBI; 2) introducing a method to evaluate quality of life through the evaluation of psychosocial adjustment and recovery; 3) expanding knowledge and improving care for individuals by understanding the effects of TBI across the lifespan. Products include website posts, online/printed brochures, social media posts, manuscripts in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, presentations at national conferences, consumer factsheets, and clinician training/education. Duration of the proposal is five years with expected completion of all aspects of the proposal by august 30, 2027.
