Description

Freight service and intercity passenger rail service are both expected to expand soon, and the project will helpidentify means to improve safety at the rail grade crossings. FEC and brightline trains operate along this corridor, causingdelays at numerous crossings. This planning study will deploy technology at the identified rail crossings to collect datarelated to traffic operations, motorists delays, and train interactions with the crossings. The data will then be analyzed todevelop solutions aimed at improving safety along the corridor with the goal of reducing accidents to zero. This projects goal is to improve the mobility of people and goods at rail grade crossings, reduce noise (no train horns),reduce emissions from idling vehicles, and decrease traffic congestion. Beneficiaries are the public, who would experiencereduced delays at these crossings.
