The Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) awarded a $722,532 Project Grant to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety to decrease commercial motor vehicle (CMV) crashes in high-risk corridors through increased enforcement and inspections from July 1, 2022 to September 30, 2024.
Under the grant, the Mississippi Highway Patrol will collect data on CMV traffic enforcement inspections, violations, and crashes in the identified corridors. This data will be reported to the FMCSA portal to support the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance High Priority Activities Grants and Cooperative Agreements program's goal of strengthening CMV safety programs through partnerships with states. The funding will allow for expanded enforcement of traffic and inspection regulations applicable to CMVs, with a focus on the corridors experiencing high crash rates.
