About this award
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded the State of South Dakota Department of Transportation a Project Grant totaling $882,205.26 under the Airport Improvement Program (CFDA 20.106) on August 29, 2025, for airport pavement rehabilitation and maintenance work at non-primary airports in South Dakota. The project will be completed by August 28, 2029, and encompasses comprehensive pavement sealing and resurfacing activities across multiple airfield components, including runways (Runway 2/20, 9/27, 18/36, 12/30, and 13/31), taxiways, taxilanes, and terminal aprons, as well as terminal apron marking rehabilitation.
The grant-funded improvements encompass approximately 38,527 linear feet of runway, taxiway, and taxilane pavement reseal work, along with approximately 31,250 square yards of apron pavement reseal and joint treatment, all designed to extend the useful service life of existing airport infrastructure. These pavement rehabilitation activities support the FAA's strategic objectives of maintaining safe and efficient airport operations while preserving critical aviation infrastructure across South Dakota's regional airport system without requiring full reconstruction or resurfacing.
