About this award
The City of Rochester, Minnesota received a $22.9 million Project Grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under the Airport Improvement Program, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Programs, and COVID-19 Airports Programs (CFDA 20.106), awarded on September 23, 2025. The grant funds comprehensive airfield infrastructure improvements at Rochester airport, including reconstruction of 6,450 linear feet of Runway 3/21, relocation of Taxiway B by 50 feet to meet current Federal Aviation Administration standards, and construction activities across multiple project phases. Specifically, the award funds design work for the Runway 3/21 and 13/31 intersection (Phase 8), construction of the same intersection including 400 feet of Taxiway A (Phase 10), and construction of the final phase involving the intersection of Taxiway B, Runway 13/31, and Taxiway A with associated lighting systems.
The project period extends through September 22, 2029, allowing sufficient time for design completion, construction execution, and project closeout. These infrastructure improvements align with the FAA's strategic objectives of safety and operational excellence by modernizing aging airport facilities and ensuring compliance with current design standards. Upon completion, the project will enhance the safety, capacity, and operational efficiency of Rochester airport infrastructure to serve civil aeronautics needs in the region.
