About this award
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded $595,500 in project grant funding to the City of Larned on August 27, 2025, under the Airport Improvement Program (CFDA 20.106) to reconstruct and modernize critical navigational infrastructure at Larned Municipal Airport in Kansas. The grant funds the acquisition and installation of a new wind cone and segmented circle navigational aid, reconstruction of runway and taxiway lighting systems that have reached the end of their useful life, installation of runway end identifier lights for Runway 17/35 to meet current FAA standards, and replacement of an existing airport rotating beacon. The project is scheduled for completion by August 26, 2029, and represents a portion of the total airport improvement initiative, with additional funding provided through a separate Airport Improvement Program grant administered by the FAA's Central Region.
These infrastructure improvements will enhance pilot situational awareness through updated navigational aids and bring Larned Municipal Airport into compliance with current FAA standards for runway lighting and visual guidance systems. The project directly supports the FAA's strategic objectives of safety and operational excellence while maintaining the airport's role within the national system of public-use airports.
