About this award
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded County of Shoshone a Project Grant of $138,455.79 under the Airport Improvement Program (CFDA 20.106) on July 31, 2025, with an ultimate completion date of July 30, 2029. This award funds Phase 1 design work for a comprehensive airfield pavement rehabilitation project at Shoshone County Airport in Smelterville, Idaho. The design phase will support the rehabilitation of multiple airport infrastructure components, including approximately 10,068 square yards of apron pavement across four separate areas (East Tie Down Apron, Fuel Apron, West Tie Down Apron, and North Apron), 3,775 linear feet of Runway 07/25, and 660 linear feet of parallel taxiway pavement.
The project aims to maintain structural integrity and minimize foreign object debris across all rehabilitated surfaces to extend their useful lives and ensure safe airport operations. This grant represents federal investment in critical infrastructure maintenance at a civilian public-use airport included in the National Plan of Integrated Airports Systems, supporting the FAA's strategic objectives of safety and operational excellence through the Airport Improvement Program, which encompasses traditional AIP funding, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) appropriations, and COVID-19 relief grants.
