Description
- Abstract
- This award provides partial support for the biomedical engineering society (bmes) annual meeting to be held october 21?24, 2026, in orlando, florida. This meeting will advance research and education in engineering, biology, medicine, and computing. The 2026 meeting will discuss the important role of biotechnology and artificial intelligence (AI) in developing new technologies that address healthcare challenges. The meeting will bring together approximately 5,500 scientists, clinicians, industry professionals, and students. The conference will provide a venue to exchange ideas, share discoveries, and build new collaborations. The award will help ensure involvement of the broader community, especially researchers from institutions with limited resources. The project will support mentoring and career development activities and proposal development workshops. The meeting is structured to offer early career professionals networking with recruiters and graduate programs. These activities will strengthen the nation's biomedical engineering workforce. The bmes annual meeting will provide a national forum for dissemination of emerging biomedical engineering research and for development of new interdisciplinary collaborations. The technical program will include about 2,500 presentations spanning topics such as biomedical systems and devices, biomechanics and mechanobiology, neural engineering, biomedical imaging, computational medicine, wearable sensing systems, biomaterials, regenerative engineering, and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled healthcare technologies. Activities will include workshops on proposal preparation. Additional cross-disciplinary sessions will foster interactions among researchers working in engineering of biomedical systems, biomechanics and mechanobiology, sensing technologies, and computational medicine. Through technical presentations, mentoring activities, and professional development programs, the project will accelerate dissemination of new knowledge, promote convergent research across engineering disciplines, and expand participation in biomedical engineering research and education. This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.- subawards are not planned for this award.
