The project plans to explore the use of multimodal AI to provide automated feedback for formative science assessments, with the goal of generating design principles to develop...
- This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the STEM Education (formerly Education and Human Resources) program (CFDA 47.076) provides $156,000 to Northwestern University to rapidly develop and research a set of "unplugged" hands-on learning activities for teaching middle-school students about artificial intelligence (AI). The project aims to create an open-source repository of up to 15 hands-on, low-cost AI literacy activities that can be led by educators...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Project Grant under CFDA 47.076 STEM Education (formerly Education and Human Resources) provides $489,803 to North Carolina State University (NC State) to establish and nurture a research-practice partnership called "AI by 8" focused on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) concepts into K-2 English Language Arts (ELA) instruction for rural North Carolina students. The project aims to directly impact 30 teachers and approximately 600 students...
- This $199,503 Project Grant awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the STEM Education (CFDA 47.076) program will fund a large-scale, mixed-methods study to understand perceptions and use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in K-12 education. The one-year project will survey a nationally representative sample of parents, teachers, and youth to identify opportunities, risks, and supports needed for integrating AI-driven learning tools. The study will employ both...
- The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $199,920 Project Grant under the STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) to The Research Foundation for The State University of New York. The grant, titled "RAPID: Exploring an AI Literacies Framework for Young Children: A Delphi Study," will develop an interdisciplinary framework for early childhood education (ECE) on artificial intelligence (AI). The project will convene a panel of 30 diverse experts from the fields of AI, child...
- Grant Award Summary The National Science Foundation's Division of Information and Intelligent Systems awarded Digital Promise Global a $174,636 Project Grant (CFDA 47.070 - Computer and Information Science and Engineering) on June 1, 2026, to support a 16-month collaborative research initiative titled "Districts Helping Districts: Expanding and Amplifying Network Support for K-12 AI Integration." The project, in partnership with Broward County Public Schools, develops and delivers...
- This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) program provides $200,000 to support a time-sensitive project that aims to empower teachers to harness the capabilities of large language models (LLMs) to create interactive, personalized STEM learning resources. The project team, led by the Regents of the University of Michigan, will partner with WGBH Educational Foundation to develop a teacher-AI...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (CFDA 47.084) Project Grant award of $275,000 will support the development of an AI-enhanced platform to empower K-12 teachers with high-quality and inclusive math instruction. The project aims to tackle challenges in K-12 math education by integrating new AI models to assist teachers in generating personalized lesson materials, providing formative assessment, auto-scoring, and generating diagnostic reports...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering (CFDA 47.041) award provides $400,000 over 3 years to Northeastern University to develop and implement a professional development program for high school STEM teachers focused on incorporating generative AI into their classroom instruction. The program will recruit 10 teachers per year, prioritizing those serving underrepresented students, and provide intensive summer training supplemented by monthly collaborative meetings and ongoing content...
NSF FF: PLANNING: PROJECT FIREFLY - EMBEDDING AI INTERACTION IN K-6 INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING THROUGH COMMUNITY-DRIVEN CO-DESIGN -THIS FINDERS FOUNDRY AWARD EMBEDS SIMPLE AI ROUTINES DIRECTLY INTO SCIENCE, LITERACY, AND ENGINEERING INSTRUCTION SO STUDENTS LEARN THESE SKILLS DURING HANDS?ON INQUIRY. MANY YOUNG STUDENTS USE AI TOOLS IN DAILY LIFE BUT ARE SELDOM ENCOURAGED TO CHECK WHETHER RESPONSES ARE ACCURATE OR HELPFUL. CHILDREN WILL PRACTICE ASKING BETTER QUESTIONS, TESTING AI OUTPUTS, AND UNDERSTANDING LIMITS IN REAL LEARNING CONTEXTS. TEACHERS, FAMILIES, AND TECHNOLOGISTS WILL CO?DESIGN THE ROUTINES TO MAKE SURE APPROACHES ARE ACCESSIBLE WHILE ALSO SUPPORTING LEARNING GOALS. YOUNG LEARNERS WILL BE ENCOURAGED TO ACTIVELY QUESTION, EVALUATE, AND ENGAGE WITH EMERGENT TECHNOLOGIES DURING CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES. BY TEACHING AI LITERACY THROUGH EVERYDAY LESSONS, THE PROJECT WILL BUILD CONFIDENCE, CURIOSITY, AND RESPONSIBLE TECHNOLOGY USE FROM AN EARLY AGE. THIS FINDERS FOUNDRY AWARD DEVELOPS A NOVEL CLASSROOM INTERVENTION THAT SEAMLESSLY EMBEDS AI INTERACTION INTO EXISTING, INQUIRY-DRIVEN CORE SUBJECTS, SUCH AS SCIENCE AND LITERACY, RATHER THAN TEACHING AI LITERACY AS A STANDALONE TOPIC. THE PROJECT GENERATES NEW UNDERSTANDING OF WHICH DESIGN PRINCIPLES MOST EFFECTIVELY SUPPORT ELEMENTARY STUDENTS IN QUESTIONING, EVALUATING, AND RESPONSIBLY USING AI TOOLS WITHIN CORE STEM LEARNING. BY CO-DEVELOPING DESIGN PRINCIPLES FOR K?6 ARTIFICIAL AI LITERACY EMBEDDED WITHIN CORE INSTRUCTION AT A STEM?FOCUSED CHARTER SCHOOL. PLANNING WORK WILL PRODUCE A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK, WIREFRAMES, AND MEASURES TO ASSESS STUDENT GAINS IN EVALUATIVE REASONING, INQUIRY PARTICIPATION, AND ENGAGEMENT. THE PROJECT WILL DEFINE SCAFFOLDS, PROMPTS, AND TEACHER SUPPORTS THAT POSITION AI AS A THINKING PARTNER WITHIN CLASSROOM INQUIRY RATHER THAN AN ANSWER?PROVIDING SYSTEM. OUTPUTS WILL INCLUDE VALIDATED INSTRUCTIONAL COMPONENTS, EVIDENCE OF EARLY FEASIBILITY, AND A CLEAR PATHWAY INTO A FUTURE DEVELOPMENT PHASE. THE WORK INTEGRATES AI LITERACY INTO FOUNDATIONAL STEM PRACTICES IN A DEVELOPMENTALLY ALIGNED AND INSTRUCTIONALLY COHERENT MANNER. THIS AWARD REFLECTS NSF'S STATUTORY MISSION AND HAS BEEN DEEMED WORTHY OF SUPPORT THROUGH EVALUATION USING THE FOUNDATION'S INTELLECTUAL MERIT AND BROADER IMPACTS REVIEW CRITERIA.- SUBAWARDS ARE NOT PLANNED FOR THIS AWARD.
