NSF FF: PLANNING: BUILDING RESOURCE INFRASTRUCTURE TO DRIVE GROWTH AND ENGAGEMENT (BRIDGE) IN STEM -THIS FINDERS FOUNDRY AWARD SUPPORTS K?12 STUDENTS IN PERSONALIZED STEM EXPLORATION. MANY STUDENTS ARE CURIOUS ABOUT STEM BUT DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO HANDS?ON OPPORTUNITIES THAT MATCH THEIR INTERESTS OR NEEDS. THIS AI-POWERED SYSTEM DISCOVERS STUDENTS? STEM INTERESTS THROUGH GUIDED CONVERSATION, BUILDS STRUCTURED STUDENT PROFILES, AND MATCHES STUDENTS WITH HANDS-ON STEM EXPERIENCES. THE SYSTEM WILL BE CO-DESIGNED, EMBEDDING EDUCATORS AND A PARENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS TO ENSURE THE TECHNOLOGY ADDRESSES REAL BARRIERS SUCH AS TRANSPORTATION, SCHEDULING, AWARENESS, AND TRUST. BY GIVING STUDENTS A WAY TO EXPLORE STEM EARLY, THE PROJECT SUPPORTS NATIONAL GOALS TO BROADEN PARTICIPATION AND BUILD STRONG FUTURE PATHWAYS. THIS FINDERS FOUNDRY AWARD DEVELOPS A PLATFORM THAT INTERPRETS A STUDENT?S CURIOSITY ABOUT STEM, ASSESSES THEIR DEVELOPMENTAL READINESS, AND CONNECTS THEM WITH A HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE AT A UNIVERSITY LABORATORY, INDUSTRY FACILITY, OR COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION. THIS NOVEL PLATFORM BRIDGES THE GAP BETWEEN STUDENTS? EMERGING INTERESTS AND THE DISTRIBUTED STEM RESOURCES AVAILABLE ACROSS INSTITUTIONS. THIS PLATFORM LEVERAGES A FIVE COMPONENT ARCHITECTURE: CONVERSATIONAL INTEREST DISCOVERY, STRUCTURED STUDENT PROFILING, A DYNAMIC STEM RESOURCE GRAPH, CONSTRAINT-AWARE MATCHING, AND REINFORCEMENT LEARNING FEEDBACK. THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY LEADERSHIP COMBINES COMPLEMENTARY EXPERTISE SPANNING ROBOTICS, AI, STEM ACADEMIC PATHWAYS, K-12 EDUCATION EVALUATION, CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION, AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT TO CO-DESIGN THIS TECHNOLOGY ENSURES THAT THE SOLUTION IS GENERALIZABLE ACROSS EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS. THIS AWARD REFLECTS NSF'S STATUTORY MISSION AND HAS BEEN DEEMED WORTHY OF SUPPORT THROUGH EVALUATION USING THE FOUNDATION'S INTELLECTUAL MERIT AND BROADER IMPACTS REVIEW CRITERIA.- SUBAWARDS ARE NOT PLANNED FOR THIS AWARD.
