About this award
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Region 8 - Southern Region, awarded the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Animal Industries, a project grant of $717,575 under the Cooperative Forestry Assistance program (CFDA 10.664) for the period from August 19, 2025, through August 18, 2030. This award supports implementation of forest management priorities identified in Tennessee's State Forest Action Plan, with activities aligned to Executive Order 14225. The grant funds on-the-ground forest management activities designed to improve forest health and productivity, reduce the spread of forest disease and insects, thin hazardous fuels, and promote active management of forests to generate timber and economic benefits while engaging private landowners in stewardship practices.
The Cooperative Forestry Assistance program provides funding to state forestry agencies and other eligible entities for forest resource conservation and management on non-federal forest lands. Activities funded under this award may include hazardous fuels reduction treatments, invasive species and forest pest mitigation, technical assistance to private forest landowners, forest health monitoring, and landscape-scale restoration work across Tennessee's non-federal forest lands. Through this five-year project grant, the state agency will advance forest health objectives while supporting rural community resilience and reducing wildfire risk across the state's approximately 500 million acres of non-federal forest resources.
