This funding supports agency staff, communities, and partners by providing fire management and training assistance

Colorado State University's Sponsored Programs Division received a $486,075 project grant awarded September 8, 2025, by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Region 2 (Rocky Mountain Region), under the State & Private Forestry Cooperative Fire Assistance program (CFDA 10.698). The award extends through September 6, 2030, and supports fire management and training assistance to agency staff, communities, and partners throughout Colorado. Key deliverables include assessment of wildfire risk, development of mitigation projects, prioritization of fire management efforts, and implementation of actions designed to reduce wildfire damage and community vulnerability.

The funded activities address critical gaps in wildfire preparedness and mitigation capacity by equipping communities and state partners with technical expertise and resources necessary to effectively manage wildfire risks. Without this support, communities would lack adequate capability to respond to wildfire impacts and implement preventive measures. As a Land Grant institution with extensive experience in natural resource management and federal contract execution, Colorado State University applies its research infrastructure and technical expertise to deliver comprehensive fire management solutions aligned with the Forest Service's national wildfire mitigation objectives.

IT helps assess wildfire risk, develop mitigation projects, prioritize efforts, and implement meaningful actions to reduce wildfire damage. Without this funding, many communities will be inadequately equipped to handle inevitable wildfire impacts and will struggle to reduce risk effectively.
