Infrastructure michigan state forest action plan

This federal Project Grant award of $699,000.00 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service under the Cooperative Forestry Assistance program (CFDA 10.664) supports a range of forest management and conservation activities across the state of Michigan. The grant, awarded on August 7, 2024, with a performance period ending on September 30, 2028, will be implemented by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Finance and Operations Division.

Key products and services to be delivered through this funding include developing genetically improved tree seeds and seedlings, producing and distributing tree seedlings for reforestation, undertaking landscape restoration initiatives, mitigating invasive species threats, and promoting sustainable forestry practices. These efforts aim to reduce wildfire risks, improve watershed function, enhance wildlife habitats, and advance urban and community forestry initiatives across Michigan. The DNR frequently collaborates with local governments, universities, nonprofits, and Native American tribes as sub-awardees to deliver these comprehensive natural resource management and conservation objectives.
