2024 bipartisan infrastructure law state forest action plan

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service awarded a $368,000 Project Grant to the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) under the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Program (CFDA 10.664). This grant, with a performance period from August 19, 2024 to August 1, 2028, will support a range of forestry management and conservation activities across non-federal lands in South Dakota.

The grant funding will enable DANR to undertake initiatives focused on developing genetically improved tree seeds and seedlings, producing and distributing tree seedlings for reforestation, implementing landscape restoration projects, mitigating invasive species threats, and promoting sustainable forestry practices. These efforts aim to reduce wildfire risks, improve watershed function, enhance wildlife habitats, and advance urban and community forestry initiatives across the state. As a comprehensive state agency responsible for managing and protecting South Dakota's agricultural and environmental resources, DANR will serve as a crucial intermediary between the federal government and local communities, delivering essential programs that support infrastructure development, environmental conservation, and agricultural sustainability.
