The Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) in Montana was awarded a $164,016 Project Grant under the U.S. Department of Agriculture's State & Private Forestry Cooperative Fire Assistance program (CFDA 10.698). This federal grant, awarded on April 9, 2024, will fund a range of activities aimed at controlling rural fires, preventing and suppressing fires on non-federal forest lands, and developing new fire management technologies across Montana. Key services to be provided include hazardous fuels reduction, community wildfire protection planning, fire prevention education, incident management support, and capacity building for fire departments and forestry agencies. The grant supports efforts to enhance forest resilience, promote fire-adapted communities, and protect lives and property from wildfire risks in the state. The project will be completed by March 31, 2029.
