This National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Site award, funded through the NSF Biological Sciences program (CFDA 47.074), will provide $477,292 to the University of California, Riverside to train 30 undergraduate students over 3 summers (2025-2027) in next-generation plant biology and plant-microbe interactions research. The 10-week summer program aims to engage students, primarily from schools with limited research opportunities, in hands-on laboratory research addressing an urgent national need for training in translational and foundational plant biology. Students will learn research techniques, present their work at scientific conferences, and explore career options in plant biology and related fields. The program will be hosted by UC Riverside's Center for Plant Cell Biology and include workshops on experimental design, genetics, molecular biology, and microscopy. This award reflects NSF's mission to advance scientific knowledge and strengthen the STEM workforce.
