This National Science Foundation (NSF) Biological Sciences (CFDA 47.074) program grant awarded $285,014 to the University of Mississippi to study the genetic basis of phenotypic diversity in a species of poison frog, Dendrobates tinctorius. The project will leverage a high-quality genome assembly and generate new genomic data for over 100 frogs across the species' geographic range. This will enable the researchers to better understand the population structure and the evolutionary drivers behind the extreme color and pattern variation observed in this aposematic (warning) species. The project will also provide training for undergraduate students and outreach to local schools. No sub-awards are planned under this 3-year grant, which commenced on September 1, 2024.
