The National Science Foundation (NSF) Biological Sciences program (CFDA 47.074) awarded a $100,000 Project Grant to Nmc, Inc., doing business as New Mexico Consortium, to host a 2-day workshop entitled "Microbiome Data Management in Action" on June 12-13, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia. The workshop aims to bring together key decision makers in microbiome science to discuss recent progress, challenges, and recommendations for coordinated environmental microbiome data management across researchers, funders, data repositories, and publishers. The event will convene approximately 50 attendees, including underrepresented groups, to outline priorities and develop a consensus roadmap for implementing standardized microbiome data management practices. The results of this workshop will inform the development of a formalized checklist to be used across journals and repositories, ultimately driving scientific innovation in environmental microbiome research related to ecosystem health, food security, and climate change. No sub-awards are planned under this grant.
