This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's Biological Sciences (CFDA 47.074) program provides $743,852 to Saint Louis University (SLU) to acquire an XTALAB SYNERGY-R single crystal diffractometer. This state-of-the-art scientific instrument will enable researchers across 13 different SLU colleges, as well as collaborators from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, to collect high-quality X-ray diffraction data from organic compounds and biological macromolecules. The new diffractometer is expected to improve research productivity, quality, and educational efforts at SLU and other regional institutions by training students, postdocs, and teachers in advanced structural analysis techniques. The funded equipment will support a diverse array of cutting-edge projects, including research on DNA repair, blood coagulation, viral replication, enzyme mechanisms, and the synthesis of complex glycans - all of which have the potential to yield breakthroughs that impact society, the economy, and human health. This award runs from September 2024 through August 2027.
