The Department of the Treasury Internal Revenue Service awarded a $254,260 project grant to Bet Tzedek Legal Services Inc. under the Low Income Taxpayer Clinics federal grant program (CFDA 21.008). The funding will support Bet Tzedek in providing representation and educational services to low-income taxpayers through 2025. Specifically, Bet Tzedek will open new and previously opened representation cases involving tax controversies, consult with taxpayers on specific tax issues, conduct educational activities, and advocate for improvements to IRS administration. The intended beneficiaries are taxpayers with incomes not exceeding 250% of federal poverty guidelines and taxpayers for whom English is a second language. In limited circumstances, Bet Tzedek may utilize subrecipients to help deliver key program elements with advanced IRS approval.
